There aren’t any inherent risks, per se. They are a feature of the game itself (not saying they can’t be broken :P) but they won’t automatically cause corruption or anything. I’ve just had problems with neighbors getting stuck, multiplying apartment residents, and most recently, apartment landlord and residents getting stuck in the foundation (how?? why?? I keep moving them back into the building using cheats, then hours later I get the pop-up indicating that someone has passed out on the lot, and I’m looking everywhere and everywhere and they’re in the foundation). Pescado’s FFS Lot Debugger can fix several apartment problems/glitches, but apparently my apartment neighbors are doomed to be stranded in the foundation forever. XD
Right now I can’t think of any other specific glitches I encountered, but they definitely don’t run as smoothly as a regular residential lot. Which is a shame, because as an apartment-dweller myself, I love the extra realism they add, especially in an urban neighborhood. Monthly rent, pesky neighbors, but also a sense of community with the people living around you. 🙂 (My landlord doesn’t hold pizza parties, but we do get homemade manicotti and struffoli. ^_____^)
Hey! First of all, do you use a Mac? The Clean Installer doesn’t work on Macs (unless you have a Windows partition, I would think?). :
If not, after you install the program, double-click on any Sims2Pack file you have downloaded (in this case, I opened the sushi restaurant), and it should bring up a window like this:
This is a list of all the CC that comes packaged with the lot. You can look through exactly what’s packaged to decide what you would like to install into your own game, and you can uncheck anything you already have (to avoid duplicates) or anything you don’t want installed. 🙂
The first item listed (Izumi Sushi) is the lot itself – you can check under the “Type” column. 🙂 If you ever download something because you want CC it has, but not the lot/Sim itself, you can uncheck this and the Clean Installer will just install the CC you leave checked. 🙂
When you’re satisfied with the content you have checked or unchecked, just click install!
Just a note: lots don’t package any Maxis recolors, unfortunately, and they will not automatically package the master meshes for any slaved meshes you use, which is why I try to include a folder (in addition to the Sims2Pack) with the other required meshes/recolors.
I hope this helps! Feel free to message or chat if you have other questions. 😀
Hello! I have my downloads folder (roughly) organized the way I saw @hafiseazale‘s organized when I was in Sims 2 Chat a long time ago. XD Here’s a little preview:
I read once that the deeper your subfoldering goes (such as “CAS->Clothing->Male->Everyday->Separates->Skell”), the slower your load times. I haven’t tested it both ways, but anyway, that’s why I have so many individual folders immediately within my main downloads folder and few subfolders. ^^;
After the buy mode stuff, my folder goes to “S-DEFAULTS” and “Z-MODS”. 🙂
@allisas uploaded a similar folder system for anyone who just wants to download the empty folders already labeled, you can grab those HERE. The only difference is that I have my buy mode stuff labeled by creator instead of category.
I hope that helps! I’ve been trying to better organize my CC within the actual folders (especially my MaxisRecolors folder – that’s a nightmare). It’s, uh, slow-going. XD
I won’t, sorry. : If you use the Clean Installer before installing, you can unselect the CC you don’t want in your own game (like if you just want the empty restaurant to decorate yourself).
Maybe I can make some other CC-free lots in the future. ^^;
As requested, here is Izumi Sushi up for download! It’s a 2×2 community lot (because that’s all I ever build). It comes with a dining podium (full dining service – Nightlife required for this!) and a bar.
ALL REQUIRED FILES ARE INCLUDED (yay!). Or at least they should be. I tested my game without any other CC except what’s in the .rar and everything looked okay. You will need the Sweet Down Low fix and the CEP to ensure that wall hangings are at the proper height (or you will need to adjust them) and that Maxis recolors show up.
Important notes:
I have all EPs and SPs.
The lot may look a tad different from the screenshots – I changed some lighting to better suit the atmosphere, and I added extra counters to prevent Sims from getting behind the hibachi grill. The grill doesn’t spawn a cook, obviously, so I didn’t see the point in having Sims able to get behind the counter. They can be seated at the counter and order table service, but I thought it looked better to have the back off-limits. Feel free to change it back if you’d like!
The sushi platters are actually edible food! The two on the counter top aren’t usable, unfortunately. 😦 (I’m not sure why? Maybe I need to playtest it a bit more.) There are two additional platters – one on the dining table and one in the kitchen. Yes, Sims will go into the kitchen to grab a plate. -_- (Side note: is there a way to prevent random Sims from entering restaurant kitchens??!)
All of the barstools were accessible in my playtesting.
Random Maxis rug in the middle of the road? That’s where I had my road replacement overlay. Random fruit basket in the grass? That’s where I had my sky object (removed during packaging to cut down on file size). Just delete them! :3
The lot got a bit crowded during playtesting and Sims were throwing the usual route-failure tantrum. Feel free to rearrange the interior to add a bit more walk space.
I didn’t playtest the bathrooms but they should be fine??
I bulk-renamed my files at some point – please be aware of this, as my files may not necessarily overwrite yours, resulting in duplicates.
Let me know if you encounter any problems. Feel free to edit, use in your stories/screenshots, etc. A tag would be nice because I’d love to see what you do with it!
UPDATE 6/4/16 – Some of my lots apparently carry the Super Duper Hug Bug. If you are unfamiliar with the bug, you can read more about it HERE. If you don’t already have it, BoilingOil’s No Sim Loaded will prevent the bug from “infecting” your game. If you already have the bug, the mod will suppress it. Either way, it’s a must-have.
