I always release worlds for free, but help me pay for medical and educational expenses! Every little amount is always greatly appreciated, with the large amount of time I put into these worlds in a busy schedule! – Potato Ballad Sims

Boroughsburg is an up-and-coming neighborhood in
New York City that straddles the delicate line between working-class
industrial grittiness and rarefied hipsterdom. Enjoy spectacular views
of Manhattan from the waterfront, while live music, outdoor markets and
art shows brighten atmospheric cobblestone streets and factories being
transformed into trendy lofts and offices.

Not your stuff?
You could always go for gyros, pierogies or matzo ball soup at the
local diners, visit cultural centers, meet up with old timers and dance
the night away.

So
I was never quite satisfied with the Maxis city worlds in the sims
series, and wanted something that felt like somewhere. Boroughsburg is a mashup
of New York City’s DUMBO, Williamsburg, Greenpoint, Long Island City, and Astoria- but is open enough that you can build whatever bit of New York you want in it. But more importantly, it’s the cumulation of around almost two years of work- and I
hope you’ll enjoy it!

Why didn’t I choose a more ‘New-Yorky’ location? It’s because
these parts of town are probably the more ‘neighbourhood-like’, meaning
that you get a nice combination of quiet areas and busier ones that feel
the most realistic in TS3- otherwise you run into the ‘empty-world
syndrome’ that plagues many Sims 3 city worlds. On top of that, I find the inner boroughs
more fascinating in their endless subtle adaptations for daily survival in the metropolis, more so than the played-up theatrics you often
find on your typical New York itinerary 🙂

  • Compact medium city world, 69 lots + 2 lots for divers
  • Mostly empty world with deco shells- only core lots are finished. This is called a ‘Let’s Build’ for a reason!
  • Should run smoothly on mid-high-tier computers.
  • Includes recolors & remeshes of the hot air balloon, train, police car, fire pickup, taxis, flags, moon, clouds and weather made specifically for a New York environment- if you want to see those in action, you will need to remove other replacement mods first.
  • Base game + LN spawners included.
  • Island Paradise compatible- docks and dive lots are provided.
  • A separate download includes an inspiration
folder with some examples of buildings in each district, in case you
were wondering what each district was inspired by (and what to build!). Also included is a map with world districts, appropriate addresses and lot sizes, along with sound emitter locations, sounds & offsets, if
you want to replace those lots.

  • Installation instructions are included in the download folder. Please follow them carefully.

CC Notes

  • All custom-made CC is included in several packages. You must install them or else all you’ll get is an empty world!
  • Over two hundred new items made for this world, optimized for file size and game performance (with LODs).
Some of them have been activated in the game catalogue since they’re
also useful in many other situations. All in-game catalogue items have
    proper names and descriptions!
  • Further CC notes are located in the readmenote that two other mods are required (Buzzler’s Shell Emitter & Jynx’s Rabbitholes).

Expansions & Store Content

  • I tried to keep this pack to a minimum for expansions.
  • Late Night is required!
  • World Adventures is suggested– without it, you’ll miss out on the sounds that come with the subway train.
  • Content from Ambitions, University Life and Island Paradise is used, but the corresponding content packages have been included if you don’t have the expansions.
  • Content from Riverview and the ticket machine + turnstiles from the Ticket to Entry set
are included as a package. Feel free to remove if you have the
decrappified packages. The ticket machine is bugged and so you will need
    this Store Fix package.

i was gonna make a joke about how the massachusetts candle probably smells like a drug deal in the dunkin donuts parking lot but then i checked and it legitimately smells like dunkin coffee i’m done

does the jersery one smell like a fucking dumpster

@youarestillamystery

@tflatte, @deirdrearchleone

link to the site if anyone’s curious about their home state!

*sniffs the jersey one* ah yes dumpsters and beaches

Ohio is corn

chocolate and molasses.

NorCal is pear, redwood, and vineyards. (Kudos to them for separating NorCal and SoCal.)

really disappointed Wisconsin’s doesn’t smell like cheese.  Also Texas needs to be broken up.  My part of Texas needs more tacos and bbq than cotton and leather.

Alabama is “hints of wet road fresh from a summer storm, magnolia, and peanuts,” which all sounds legitimately great but I’m gonna need more red dirt and pine trees in there my dudes

Blackberries and BBQ? Nope. Mine needs a hell of a lot more ‘Psychotic redneck Trump voters, KKK, and Koch Brothers Owned Politicians.“

“pine tree, hazelnut, and Oregon pears” nah more like pine trees, rain, and mould

Connecticut: “vanilla, nutmeg, and apple orchard scents” I guess? Idk where the vanilla comes from. Needs more autumn leaf smell. And income inequality, whatever that smells like.

Me before clicking: “If the Maryland one doesn’t include Old Bay somehow, I’m slapping them with a glove and demanding satisfaction.”

Maryland: hints of salt water and Old Bay.

Duel averted. Good job.

“magnolia, honeysuckle, country jasmine, and Louisiana sweet potato”

Expected magnolia, vaguely disappointed there’s nothing spicy, no idea how a Louisiana sweet potato smells any different from any other state’s.

“Scent takes you back to the Land of Lincoln with hints of grain fields, violets (the state flower), and lake breeze” ??? They need a Chicago one, because that’s not what it smells like here. It should smell like Garrett’s popcorn, chocolate, sewer, asphalt, and horse urine.

“Alaska: These scents will take you back to the good ol’ days in America’s Last Frontier with hints of spruce forest, mountain air, and glacial meltwater.” Fair enough, but I feel like it’s missing important scents like diesel fuel, dead fish, and moose poop.

“Lake Breeze” for Illinois is kind of vague.  Do they mean “dead fish washed up on the shore and baking in the sun for two weeks” lake breeze?

South Carolina – “Scent brings you back home with hints of palmetto, hibiscus, sweet tea, and sea breeze.” I suppose that means you can only be homesick for the coast? Switch that to sweet tea and pine trees and you’ve got the rest of the state.

New York: “Scent will bring you back home to the Empire State with hints of Adirondacks forest floor, apple orchards, and pumpkin.”

Ha, I wish! It’s nice and all, but what about the 8.5 million people (including myself) who live in the city? Needs essences of hot garbage, urine, and street food. :3

ICELAND, you guys.

I’m back! Let me tell you – Iceland is the trip of a lifetime. It’s such a beautiful, magical place that it doesn’t even seem real. I fell in love with everything about it. ❤ I managed to pick a select few pictures to share under the cut (a difficult task, as Iceland is so photogenic that it’s hard to pick out just a few good shots!). I’m contemplating starting a side blog for my (super amateur) photography, if only just to share some more Iceland pics without cluttering this blog. 🙂

Also, if anyone has any questions about anything, feel free to ask! I could talk about this trip forever. 😛

View of Reykjavík from the top of Hallgrímskirkja, the largest church (and one of the largest buildings) in Iceland.

Just one of the many gorgeous views in Þingvellir National Park. ❤

Öxarárfoss, a waterfall located within Þingvellir (and the first of many beautiful waterfalls we saw on our trip).

Þórufoss, a waterfall not far from Þingvellir, and the surrounding scenery, where this scene from Game of Thrones was filmed. (Also: first snowfall of the season!)

Seljalandsfoss, one of Iceland’s most famous waterfalls, is known for being the waterfall you can walk behind. As you can see from the photo, it was one big icy death trap, so we did not attempt this feat. 🙂 Next time!

Skógafoss, another icy death trap famous waterfall.

Casual hiking near Sólheimajökull, which extends from the Mýrdalsjökull glacier. On my list of things to do next time: actual glacier climbing!

View of the black sand beaches from Dyrhólaey.

Sunset over Reynisfjara.

Gamla Laugin, or the Secret Lagoon! Almost everyone has heard of Iceland’s Blue Lagoon (we did that one as well), but the Secret Lagoon is a hidden gem. Unlike the man-made Blue Lagoon, Gamla Laugin is a natural hot spring fed by a little geyser, which you can watch as it spouts every so often. 🙂

Panoramic view of Kerið, a volcanic crater lake.

Aaaaaaand last, but not least, we were fortunate enough to see the aurora on our first night (although it was only for a few minutes – the clouds rolled in rather quickly). This was the best shot I was able to get, as we didn’t expect to see them at all and I hastily set up my tripod on the balcony. But GAH. ❤

That’s all for now! I am not exaggerating when I say I cried on our last night there (I’ve never been so sad to say goodbye to a place, although this also had a lot to do with our wonderful B&B hostess, who treated us like family). I really hope to return in the next few years, perhaps in the summertime when I can make the most of all those daylight hours. ;D
