No worries! My feelings aren’t hurt – I’m fairly new to the phenomenon myself since it never occurred in my game, and my preliminary research turned up a lot of negative commentary (”your game is forever infected,” “you can’t get rid of it,” etc.). So I immediately removed links to my downloads until I could obtain more information.
I’m going to (eventually) go through my downloads and post a disclaimer about the bug and include a link to BoilingOil’s fix, for those who still want the lots. I enjoy sharing lots – I’m not much of a cc creator, so I always felt it was my way to give back to the community. I’d hate to stop doing that, but I’ll need to make sure everyone is aware of the possibility of the bug and takes necessary precautions.
Again, no worries. In fact, thank you for bringing it to my attention. I don’t know how long it’s been there, so I appreciate knowing about it now. 🙂 And I hope the fix took care of everything for you! I’m sorry for any trouble I caused. D:
I’m going to quote BoilingOil, because I’m not familiar with it myself (having never experienced it in my own game):
“The Debug Super Duper Hug is a special autonomous testing interaction that allows any sim to hug any other sim without the fear of being rejected. This hug is very effective and make sims into friends very fast. Some people [modders] use it as a template for creating new interactions, where the original is kept on as a fallback. When such a mod is later removed, the Super Duper Hug is then introduced by the game to compensate for the missing interaction. My No Sim Loaded mod protects against this annoying phenomenon.”
Basically, your Sims will keep going around trying to give hugs. From what I’ve read from people who had it in their game, it is incessant and annoying (and as iCad pointed out, may cause your Sims to make a lot of enemies if the hug gets rejected). It’s more of a nuisance than anything – it won’t break your game or cause neighborhood corruption. But for some people, having a buggy game in any terms is (understandably) unacceptable. For me, personally, if there’s no long-term damage and there’s a fix to suppress it, I don’t have a problem with it and I’m not going to go crazy reinstalling and starting from scratch. But it is incredibly viral and spreads through lot downloads, and once you have it you always have it. So if/when I share lots in the future, I have an obligation to let downloaders know of its presence (and, of course, link to the fix, which everyone should have in their game already, bug or no bug).
Downloads are still offline for now until I add a disclaimer to all of them…
Oh no, I’m sorry to hear that. 😦 This is the first I’m being told that one of my lots carries it. (Can anyone else please confirm this?) I will remove links to my lot downloads until further notice.
As far as I know, nothing will get rid of it, but a mod like BoilingOil’s No Sim Loaded will suppress it. You won’t need to do anything special when you load your game, it works automatically when you open a lot and continues to work in the background to get rid of the bug and other garbage tokens.
Again, I’m very sorry this happened. If I’d had prior knowledge of it being present in my game, I wouldn’t have put my lots up for download.
TBH, I think eventually everyone who A) Downloads lots and/or B) Has mods which they then screw around with and remove and re-install and whatnot will get the Super Hug thing. It’s just going to happen, inevitably. I might have it, but I wouldn’t know because I’ve had No Sim Loaded that Fi linked to installed for…Well, as long as the mod has existed, pretty much. BUT! I don’t think this should discourage anyone from downloading or sharing lots. Simply get BoilingOil’s mod and all is well. You never have to worry about the issue again. It’s a mod that everyone ought to have, really. Same as the anti-corruption ones, if you’re a person who plays neighborhoods long-term.
…That said, anyone who knows for certain that they have the Super Hug and who shares lots ought to let people know about this. In fact, probably everyone who shares lots, period, should let others know about this, since lot sharing is how the bug propagates between users. So, consider this MY notice, as a person who shares lots. 🙂
This is true – I don’t download many lots these days, but I do play around with my mods all the time. If I have the SDHB in my game, I haven’t noticed it because of BO’s mod.
I don’t have experience with this issue (it never actually occurred in my game), so I don’t know to what degree it bothers people. Like you said, iCad, you wouldn’t even know if you had it because BO’s mod keeps it suppressed. But I guess it can be an issue for some people? Maybe I’ll consider putting the download links up but with a disclaimer about the bug, so people can make their own decision whether or not they’d feel comfortable downloading. I feel guilty for being a “carrier” and not knowing, though. :X

One thing to note to the anon, though … if you ever want to create/download lots in the future, and lucky you has the Hug Bug, be aware that others can get it from your lots.
I know. I got hug-bugged from a really nice lot someone posted on Tumblr and asked around, consulting those who were much more knowledgeable re the Hug Bug. Nope. It’s like mono. Once you get it, it is in your game. The No Sim Loaded used after the fact will at least make your lot playable, but it will not get rid of it.
Out of curiosity, simper-fi, do you or did you have the surfer mod? I know that was in my hug-bug lot data. It’s probably a great mod, but has caused trouble in the past.
You can upload lots if you use Any Game Starter (provided you don’t have UC). Or just show the lot and use copious amounts of angles and floor plans so others can try to copy it. That’s what I do. I would never post uploads of my lots, but if I do post lots, I try to include a number of angles, and will post floor plans if anyone is interested. I doubt anyone wants my beginner’s efforts, but just in case! Too bad those of us with the SDHB in our games can’t just post a warning. If you already have it, it’s not as if you’ll get it again! Sorry to hear your lot might have it, simper-fi, though the anon might also want to check any recent social mods the person might have downloaded, such as that surfer mod. The bug could have been triggered by one of those, rather than the lot. There are two different ways you can get this, and the lot might or might not be the culprit. There is no easy way to tell if a lot has it.
oh POOOOOOOOOOOP I think you’re right :((((( I remember downloading that mod once upon a time for a lot that never came to fruition. I’m forever moving my mods/downloads in and out of my game so I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s what caused it. 😦 I’m so mad at myself, I’m usually more careful than this with my game. 😦 Sigh… looks like my lot downloads will remain off-line and no more will be uploaded in the future. I have the UC, so no AGS for me.
Thank you for the heads-up, though. I didn’t even think of that mod because I downloaded it so long ago. *grumbles to self*
But is it possible to change the music of the DJ booth? I know you can add custom radio stations to the stereo, but I wanted to put a DJ booth on one of the Twikkii lots and I want it to play surf music instead. 😛
?
Thank you @necile, @hexagonal-bipyramid, and @rockethorse! ❤ I put the .mp3 files in the “housemix” folder, and now my Sims are having a surf rock beach party and listening to Dick Dale instead of techno/R&B. ;D

Sure! I actually just finished answering a question about geneticized skin tones and I realized I never updated my skin set to include Starlla’s skins. 🙂
So for now, here are the values I assigned them:
Honey Pale Dust Birthmark – 0.127
Honey Light Rose Birthmark – 0.165
Honey Warmth Birthmark – 0.327
Honey Rose Kiss Birthmark – 0.38
Honey Sunkissed Birthmark – 0.46
Honey Beach Birthmark– 0.625
Honey Olive Skin Birthmark – 0.698
Honey Dusk Birthmark (white) – 0.865
Honey Dusk Birthmark (colorful) – 0.875
There you go anon! For reference, here is the updated notepad file that includes everything. 🙂
Hey! It’s not going to break your game, if that’s what you mean. But my custom skins are geneticized around my defaults, and if you use different defaults, you may wind up with incorrect genetics, so to speak. THIS TUTORIAL explains everything you’d need to know – it’s what I used to geneticize my skin tones, and it’s written so that even someone with minimal to no SimPE knowledge could follow it. 🙂 (Not saying you don’t know SimPE! But for a lot of people, myself included, the prospect of messing around in SimPE can be daunting. So I’m here to reassure you that if I can do it, anyone can!)
Basically, skins are geneticized on a scale. The four default skins have assigned values of 0.1, 0.3, 0.6, and 0.9 (going from S1 to S4). To geneticize skins, you would go into SimPE and assign them a value around each of the pre-existing default values. So if the custom skin you want to geneticize is lighter than your S1 default, you would give it a value smaller than 0.1. If your custom skin is a shade between S2 and S3, for example, you could give it a value of 0.4 (or 0.45, etc.).
So I took all the custom skin sets I wanted to use, and in a notepad file, I arranged them in order from lightest to darkest, then set about assigning values on the scale to fit them around my defaults. Here is part of my notepad file:
My default S1 skin is the lightest of all the skins I have in my game, so I started the scale after 0.1. Everything between S1 and S2 are skins darker than S1, but lighter than S2 (ordered to the best of my ability – it gets tedious clicking back and forth in BodyShop, and depending on how many skin sets you’re using, it’s often hard to discern if one is really “lighter” or “darker”, as sometimes it’s just a different shade :3).
Long story short: skins are geneticized around the defaults. If you use a different set of defaults and your S2 is lighter than mine, for example, some of the skins I geneticized with numbers less than 0.3 may be darker than your S2. So if your S2 and S1 Sims have a baby, it’s possible the baby will be born with a skin darker than either of the parents. Does that make sense? I’m not very good at explaining things, it seems. 😐 (Here! Go read @vimpse‘s post! She’s better at explaining than I am. :D)
Again, mixing my geneticized skins with different defaults will not break your game, but if you’re OCD about genetics (like I am) and having babies with darker/lighter skin tones than both of their parents would bother you, then I’d recommend picking the custom skin sets you’d like to use, and assign genetic values in SimPE yourself to fit them around your defaults. 🙂
That’s why I did it in the first place, honestly. I use a lot of the same skins Vimpse uses, but I wanted to use different defaults so I set out on a skin-geneticizing expedition of my own. ;D
I hope this helps a little bit! I can’t overstress how helpful this tutorial is, so I’m going to link to it again! If I can clarify anything else for you, drop me another message or IM me or whatever tumblr is making us do these days. 🙂
