Hello! Gosh, I’m pretty bad at explaining things, but I’ll try. :3 When an item is repositoried, it takes its texture from another item that’s already in the game. For example, many cc creators make the same piece of clothing for different age groups. In order to save space/make smaller file sizes, they will often link the textures to a single age group (which is referred to as “repositoried” or “texture-referenced”). A TF outfit that is repositoried to the AF outfit will take its textures from the AF outfit – that means the AF outfit must be in the game for the textures on the TF outfit to show up. As another example, whattheskell has a massive Maxis repository project going that repositories age conversions, gender conversions, add-ons, separates, etc., to their Maxis counterparts to save space. And space, as we all know, is a valuable thing for our games – it means room for more custom content. 😀
I hope that makes a little bit of sense! I’m not the best at explaining things (even less so when I know how the repository-ing actually works XD) but hopefully this helps. I’m sure there are other simmers out there who have explained it way better than I could. XD
